ART AS TIKKUN OLAM

“RESTORING AND HEALING THE WORLD THROUGH ART”

DESCRIPTION: This exhibition showcased the vision of artists who reach out beyond the purview of their own personal art to the larger world. TIKKUN OLAM is a Hebrew phrase meaning to heal and restore the world. For the very first time, celebrated Philadelphia artists, teachers, founders of community centers, leaders in humanitarian causes,  exhibited their own work and presented their community outreach experiences through statements of purpose and photographs of their community projects.

ARTISTS: Isaiah Zagar, Lily Yeh,    Jane Golden, Michelle Angela Ortiz, Syd Carpenter, Sharon Katz, Debra Kapnek, Carol Moore-Schulman, Susanne Okamoto, Arleen Olshan, Danielle Ruttenberg and Ellie Seif, and members of the Temple Judea Museum Artists Collaborative.

A panel discussion was funded by PCA. It marked the first time these artists sat together in public discussion.
