KI is a place for prayer, education, and community gatherings. It is also a place for families.
In this section of KIPAH, we focus exclusively on the families of KI. Some are famous – like the Gimbel, Annenberg, and Guggenheim families. Some KI families are multi-generational like the Langsfelds. In 2016-2017, there are members who trace their ancestry all the way back to the founding of our synagogue while others have joined in recent years and are first generation KI.
Our new “family archive” will grow both through materials located at KI and through materials families (like yours) share with us. Email your materials to KIArchivist@kenesethisrael.org and we will upload your family photographs and the stories you would like to share. We are excited to post your photographs and stories online, here at the KI Archives. We are especially interested in photographs from life cycle events – births, baby naming ceremonies, b’nai mitzvah, graduations, award ceremonies, weddings, family portraits, holidays, camp pictures, and the like. We also hope to honor our ancestors with photographs of grave markers and burial monuments.
We hope to have pictures of our children, parents, and grandparents in uniform. On the front of this page is a photo of Isaac Snellenberg, a KI member who gave his life to preserve the Union and end slavery in 1862, during the American Civil War. Members of his family are still part of KI. We will soon feature a picture of a young Rabbi Bertram W. Korn leading services in China at the end of World War II as a Marine Corps Chaplin. Rabbi Korn had not yet returned to be the spiritual leader of KI, where he had celebrated his bar mitzvah in the early 1930s.
We look forward to adding your families’ pictures from across the years as together we celebrate KI@170!
As we populate our genealogy section, you will be able to find materials on family trees and tracing your ancestors.[/fusion_text][/two_third]
